The Apple iPhone 5 30-Pin to 19-Pin Scheme

Do you happen to own an iPhone? Looking forward to getting the next generation? Well as nice as it's probably going to be, you might as well throw away every single accessory you've ever bought for your previous phones. Every single accessory created for the phone since its launch in 2007 is headed towards redundancy with the latest announcement, which states that all future iPhones will arbitrarily ditch the standard 30 pin charger cable for a smaller 19 pin cable. People were stunned by this announcement, myself included. I mean, why fix something that's not broken?

Have you guys ever heard of 'planned obsolescence?' Its a practice which encourages planning and designing a product so it's only useful for a limited time, before becoming obsolete. Its common practice, and used by many companies to create demand for the 'newer, better' model of the product. Yet this move was probably prompted by the major accessory makers facing dwindling sales, as customers saw no need to buy new accessories for a smartphone that had a universal dock system for 6 generations. What most tech blogs failed to address was the following question: Did the top accessory makers pad Apple's pockets or hardball negotiate for an incentive to drop the standard cable as a means of forcing consumers to buy new accessories? We're inclined to think so.

Considering that three of the top accessory makers have been the first to confirm that they're working on 19 pin accessories already for the launch of the iPhone 5, the motive is simple : Greed. And why not? It's a fail safe business plan, designed to shake out the smaller accessory makers with tons of unsold '30 pin' stock and a good amount of people will probably conform to this odd decision without question. As for myself, after four years and owning 3 generations of iPhones I don't think I can support such practices anymore. As much as I'd love buying a slew of artificially overpriced accessories again, I'd rather start looking for an Android phone.

I think their decision to not use future plug (that will be required by all phones/smartphones) was a poor decision. I won't be buying the 5 since I will probably be due for a new one.

Facebook and/or Zynga is not a fundamental way of living: Why their stock prices are falling

These companies do not stand as a fundamental resource as our day-to-day lives. They never will. They never should have been allowed to be traded publicly. It's all a fad. Facebook is inevitably MySpace: We're not interested enough. We want news, Real news.

Nobody gives a shit if you had a baby or how far along you are (even though you are getting 'likes'....these people just want 'likes' when they are having a kid)  - you're not important.  Doesn't anyone get this yet?

They are not typical public resources such as wikipedia or Google. They are not free, they only rely on your resources, especially Zynga. You should boycott every Zynga game (this includes Words with friends)....sorry. They stole the game from scrabble.

They've stolen games from hundreds of other game manufacturers as well.  Look into the evil company (in my opinion). They are evil (in my opinion).

Jackie Chan announces he is to retire from action movies (frown)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/cannes-film-festival/9274513/Cannes-2012-Jackie-Chan-to-retire-from-action-movies.html The 58-year-old actor said he felt “really, really tired” after decades of pushing his body to the limit. Speaking in Cannes, Chan said that his latest Hollywood outing, Chinese Zodiac, would be the last time audiences see him in a leading action role. “This is my last action film,” he said. “I tell you, I’m not young any more. I’m really, really tired". “And the world is too violent right now. It’s a dilemma - I like action but I don’t like violence.” Chan has been talking of retirement for the past couple of years but said today that this time he really means it.

Nancy Grace is an attention whore. Lets get this straight.

She brings up wildly speculative things for every single news story, and tries to make it swallow-able to any gullible person.

-She is not an expert
-She has been questioned time and time again by other commentators and LEGAL BOARDS. From her own Wikipedia page (if this doesn't convince you this woman is nuts, I don't know what will - BASICALLY, she unfairly compared MURDER & RAPE cases in a drug trafficking case, and also let a possible killer go free because she was wasting the courts time):

Prosecutorial misconduct

The Supreme Court of Georgia has twice commented on Grace's conduct as a prosecutor. First, in a 1994 heroin drug trafficking case, Bell v. State, the Court declared a mistrial, saying that Grace had "exceeded the wide latitude of closing argument" by drawing comparisons to unrelated murder and rape cases.

In 1997, the court was more severe, overturning the murder-arson conviction of businessman W. W. Carr in the death of his wife. While the court said its reversal was not due to these transgressions, since the case had turned primarily on circumstantial evidence, it nevertheless concluded "the conduct of the prosecuting attorney in this case demonstrated her disregard of the notions of due process and fairness, and was inexcusable. Carr was freed in 2004 when The Georgia Supreme Court ruled unanimously that Fulton County had waited too long to retry him, thereby unfairly prejudicing his right to a fair trial.

Despite upholding the conviction she sought, a panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals wrote in a 2005 opinion that Grace "played fast and loose" with her ethical duties and failed to "fulfill her responsibilities" as a prosecutor in the 1990 triple murder trial of Herbert Connell Stephens. The court agreed that it was "difficult to conclude that Grace did not knowingly use ... [apparently false] testimony" from a detective that there were no other suspects, despite the existence of outstanding arrest warrants for other men.

Whitney Houston's Funeral: Stars Expected to Attend, Speak

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/whitney-houstons-star-studded-funeral/story?id=15697203

Though Whitney Houston's funeral will be a private, invite-only affair, it will reportedly feature some of the biggest celebrities the late pop icon worked with, including Kevin Costner.

Costner, Houston's "Bodyguard" co-star, will speak at the service held at Newark, N.J.'s New Hope Baptist Church starting at noon on Saturday, People magazine reported Thursday. Representatives for Houston and Costner did not respond to ABCNews.com's requests for comment.

Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder will sing at the service, and Houston's record producer from the start of her career, Clive Davis, will also speak.

Houston's ex-husband, Bobby Brown, has denied reports that he was being barred from the services by Houston's family but has yet to confirm that he will be there.

He has been by the side of his daughter with Houston, Bobbi Kristina, since Sunday. She was hospitalized for stress and anxiety after Houston's Saturday death.

"My daughter Bobbi Kristina is doing much better," Brown said in an email statement to ABCNews.com Tuesday. "We continue to provide love and support to Bobbi Kristina. She is dealing with the tragedy of her mother's death and would prefer to do it outside of the public eye. I ask again that our privacy be respected."

Abortion saved this life.

More on the story, here.

Abortion is a touchy subject. I do, however, believe that if a life is at risk, it is a necessary must. When conjoined twins are born & one of the twins is parasitic of the other twin, it is removed without everyone throwing their arms up in the air.

In this case, the baby was parasitic & had to be removed so that the mother could live. It's unfortunate, but on the other hand, rape is another concern. I feel that anyone that believes a rape abortion to be a 'bad' thing isn't understanding that it could happen to them. Rape isn't a problem just for dilapidated areas, it happens everywhere. What is your daughter/sister/mother was given a roofee (rohypnol, the date rape drug) and became pregnant? Think about it.

Anonymous Leaks Marine Corps Massacre Case

The bombs keep dropping from Anonymous—first local cops, then the FBI, and now the Marine Corps: sensitive documents from 2005's Haditha Killings trial. Anon doesn't think the Marine in charge should have gotten off so lightly. This is their payback.

Seven years ago, (then Sergeant) Frank Wuterich and several other marines he commanded killed 24 Iraqi citizens in Haditha, Iraq, in an apparent act of revenge for an unrelated IED strike. Despite admitting to the killings, Wuterich just last week officially got off with only a charge of "negligent dereliction of duty." No jail time, no serious conviction whatsoever.

Now the law firm that defended Wuterich, Puckett and Faraj has been hit with Anonymous long internet arm of "justice." Their site has been hijacked, and a giant 3 GB trove of personal information pertaining to the case (and other matters) busted wide open by Anon.

Want slightly faster internet? It's easy

Right now, your computer is using your internet providers DNS (Domain Name System) servers. So, if you are with Comca$t for example, when you type 'google.com' into your search bar, you are running at Comca$t's server speed, which in most cases is fine.

If you are not using Windows 7, the menu's may be different, but similar. Just use intuition, it's easier than you think. If you are using OSX, just go to Network, and then Advanced, then DNS. Let's start.

But, when it comes to browsing the interwebs, milliseconds make a difference. To change your internet settings for DNS, click on the windows button, and go to the control panel. Next, go to 'Network and Internet', then click on 'View network status and tasks'. Then, click on 'Change adapter settings', and right-click your active connection (the one without an 'X'), and go to 'Properties'. Finally, select 'Internet Protocol Version 4', and click on the Properties button. Switch 'Obtain DNS server address automatically', and set the first address to:

8.8.8.8
(and the second to): 8.8.4.4

(if you don't like Google, try using http://www.opendns.com/, they also offer parent control (blacklisting porn sites, sites with swearing/nsfw images/gore, etc.) for free - their paid service offers even more options - OpenDNS is highly recommended, and can be configured by-computer, meaning your laptop could access all content, and your children's computer could only access what openDNS allows - easy, isn't it?)

click 'ok'. And you're good. Now all of your DNS settings will be directed to Google's DNS servers. Easy Peasy.

Way to drop the SOPA PIPA ball, Mr. Zuckerberg (Mark)

With the online SOPA protests going full-speed-ahead, Facebook decided against actively taking part in the SOPA protest.

Why?

Many sites blacked out, while others simply participated in the protests by educating people as to what the bill(s) are actually about. This is a noble act, no matter which the sites chose. Facebook did neither.

Instead, Zuckerberg posted something on his own website, and tweeted about SOPA. This was like firing a pellet gun when you need a shotgun. Facebook was the shotgun, and it wasn't used (for 1 day, or less than a day: 12 hours would have easily gotten the message through).

Facebook has already become a podium for pictures of kids that I don't want to see, and friends that I don't want to hear from - But Facebook could be one of the hardest hit from SOPA/PIPA, and if that happens, I'm not going to protest it's closing.

If SOPA or PIPA are passed, here is a list of IPs

If SOPA or PIPA is passed, you can't go to www.thepiratebay.org, but you can reach the site just by typing the IP address into your browser's address bar. Enjoy

TIL That in 2011 it cost 2.41 cents to make a Penny and 11.18 cents to make a Nickel.

Click here for the full story. Insane that we lose money while forging money - Time to get rid of the penny, nickel, and dime. Will consumers lose more money b/c of this fact? Probably.

The government will probably discontinue the penny and nickel (and most likely dime) within the next few years, and force businesses to round up/down based on the price of the bill. Most businesses will adjust their pricing for one-off items (say for example, a sub at subway) so that after taxes the total is shown in their favor. One extra way to screw us out of money - This isn't a complaint, just a fact.
